Andreas Papandreou

Andreas Papandreou is Professor of Environmental Economics in the Department of Economics of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. He received his B.Sc. in Economics from the University of London, Queen Mary College and his M.Sc. in Economics from London School of Economics. He became a Doctor of Philosophy at Merton College, Oxford University, in 1990. 


Dr. Papandreou has over 30 years of academic experience in various Universities, including University College London and Harvard. His research and published work are mostly in the fields of environmental economics, institutional economics, political economy, and welfare economics. Among his publications are “Externality and Institutions” (1998) Oxford University Press. He is a member of the Climate Change Impacts Study Committee (CCISC) of the Bank of Greece that completed the first comprehensive study of the impacts of climate change on Greece, prepared the Greek National Adaptation Plan and recently published the Economics of Climate Change that he co-authored. 


He is the Director of the MSc in Philosophy and Management at National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. He is the Director of the Political Economy of Sustainable Development Lab (PESD) at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. Member of the Center of Excellence on Climate Change – Adaptation and Mitigation, NKUA. He is Co-chair of the United Nations Sustainable Development Solutions Network Greece (SDSN Greece). The goal of SDSN is to promote knowledge based sustainable development solutions by engaging the academic community with civil society, local and national governments, and the business community. PESD and SDSN have been involved in many important initiatives promoting SDGs. 


Involvement in recent funded research projects focused on sustainable development issues include: Energy Governance for Sustainable Development (ENERGO), is funded by the EEA Grants 2014-2021; H2020 WATER-2014-2015/H2020-WATER-2015-two-stage, «DAFNE: Use of a Decision-Analytic Framework to explore the water-energy-food NExus in complex and trans-boundary water resources systems of fast growing developing countries», GA No. 690268; SIMRA – Social Innovation in Marginalized Rural Areas. Dr Charoula Ntelopoulou is Laboratory Teaching Staff in the scientific field of “eServices in Management and the Economy”, in the Department of Economics of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Greece. She holds a PhD in “Electronic Governance”, Department of Informatics and Telecommunications and Department of Economics, National & Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA). Msc in Management of New Technologies/Techno-Economics,Thesis: “E-Governance: Applications, Services, Evaluation Methods” Technical University of Athens, School of Electrical & Computer Engineering. Dr. Ntelopoulou has three decades of experience in academic teaching and research, with a focus on eGovernment and eCommerce. She has been a member of the Laboratory of Informatics at the NKUA for 20 years, contributing to the field of eServices in Management and Economy. Additionally, she is responsible for managing the eGOV4SDG Sector and the Digital Economy & Sustainability sector within the Political Economy of Sustainable Development Lab. She has been teaching at the NKUA for the past 30 years, both in face-to-face and distance learning settings. Her courses cover theory and practical labs at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. 


Specifically, she teaches courses related to eGovernment, eCommerce, Strategic Implementation of e-Commerce, and Relational Databases. For 5 years, she served as an Internship Scientific Supervisor at the Department of Economics in the NKUA. Her role aimed to bridge the gap between academia and the job market. Over 4 years, she taught the course “eCommerce and New Technologies for Entrepreneurship” in the BSc program “Business Administration and Organizations” at the Hellenic Open University of Greece. Her research lies in the field of: education, ICT, eGovernment, eCommerce and sustainable development. 


 Her research has been published in international academic journals, such as the International Journal of Electronic Governance, the European Journal of ePractice, Business & Entrepreneurship Journal. She served as a reviewer for several esteemed journals, including the International Journal of Electronic Governance (IJEG) by INDERSCIENCE, The International Journal of Education and Information Technology, the International Journal of Information Systems in the Service Sector (IJISSS), by IGI GLOBAL, and the journal Electronic Commerce Research and Applications by ELSEVIER. Dr Antonios Alevizos

Dr. Antonios Alevizos is Co Manager of UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network of Greece and Adjunct Lecturer at the Department of Social Policy of Democritus University of Thrace and at the MSc “Law and Economics at Energy Markets” of the Department of International and European Economic Studies of Athens University of Economics and Business. He is also researcher of the Laboratories of Sociology of Culture and Civilization of the Panteion University of Social and Political Sciences and Socioeconomic and Environmental Sustainability of Athens University of Economics and Business, Instructor at the Executive Education Center of National and Kapodistrian University of Athens at the programme  “Environmental, Social and Corporate Governance: Instruments and Strategy” and Member of the Scientific Council of Hellenic Association of Political Scientists.


He graduated with distinction from the undergraduate (BA on Sociology) and postgraduate programme (MA at Social Exclusion and Minorities, PhD on Sociology) of the Department of Sociology of the Panteion University of Social and Political Sciences. During his studies was a scholar for excellent performance. At the same time he studied Business Administration at the University of Patras. Stella Tsani

Stella Tsani is an Associate Professor at the Department of Economics, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Greece. She holds a PhD in Economics and Business from the University of Reading, UK. She is one of the 39 new members, first in Greece, selected on the grounds of the excellence of their scientific research and the demonstrated societal engagement that joined the Global Young Academy in June 2022. She is an invited lead author of the 7th Global Environment Outlook (GEO-7), United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) flagship environmental assessment,  where she contributes to the economic and financial transformations needed for the sustainability transition. She co-leads the Global Young Academy & SDGs group. She is a member of the Board of Directors of the  Euro-Mediterranean Forum of Institutes of Economic Sciences, invited expert member of the foresight group, coordinated by Plan Bleu, on the Mediterranean basin “MED 2050” project and an expert contributor to the International Science Council delegation to the UN2023 Water Conference and policy brief. She leads the Handbook of Sustainable Politics and Economics of Natural Resources. 


She acts as scientific coordinator, partner and invited advisory member in several research projects funded by national, regional, and international bodies. She has been selected as expert member of the Body of Knowledge, start-up mentor and trainer for the Cross-KIC (EIT Food, EIT Manufacturing, EIT Climate, EIT Raw Materials) initiative “Finding innovative solutions for water scarcity in Southern Europe”, expert proposal evaluator for the French National Research Agency, reviewer for the IPCC Special Report on the Ocean and Cryosphere in a Changing Climate, and expert contributor to the development of the Smithsonian Science Education Center guide for youth on the “Ocean and Sustainability”.


She has more than 10 years of professional experience with multi-sectoral networks across the knowledge triangle. Her work applies economic methods and tools at micro- and macro- level, with systems perspective, to address questions related to sustainable development, policy assessment, sovereign wealth management (Sovereign Wealth Funds), natural resources with focus on renewables, hydrocarbons and water, Water-Energy-Food-Ecosystems Nexus, institutions, labour markets, technology innovation, economy energy and environmental modeling and scenario analysis. You may find her work published in leading economics peer reviewed journals (Environmental Science and Policy, Resources Policy, Energy Economics, Economics letters, Economic Modelling, Business Strategy and the Environment, Economic Systems, etc.). Pantelis C. Kostis

Pantelis C. Kostis is an Assistant Professor of Economic Development in the Department of Economics of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA), in Greece. He obtained his B.Sc., M.Sc., and Ph.D. (with distinction) from the Department of Economics of the NKUA. He also completed his post-doctoral research in the Department of Economics of the NKUA. He has taught many courses as an adjunct lecturer of Economics at the same Department and the Departments of Business Administration, and Public Administration of the Hellenic Open University. Previously, he was also Visiting Professor at the Five-Year Integrated Programme in Management of the Indian Institute of Management Rohtak in India. He also serves as an instructor in educational distance learning programs at NKUA.


His research has been published in distinguished international academic journals, including the Journal of Business Research, the Journal of Comparative Economics, Economic Modelling, Sustainability, and the Journal of Socio-Economics. He also authored several books on economic development and growth and the European and Greek economies published by Palgrave MacMillan, Springer, IGI Global, and IntechOpen. He has also contributed to many Edited Volumes with book chapters and has participated in several international scientific conferences and research programs. His research interests include economic development and growth, economic policy, the role of institutions in the economy, and cultural economics.

Ioannis Basiakos

Ioannis Basiakos is a Professor in the Department of Economics of National & Kapodistrian University of Athens. He is a graduate of the Mathematics Department of the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics of the University of Athens. He received his Masters and PhD from the Mathematics Department of Northeastern University in Boston.

 

He was a Senior Statistician in the Center for Statistics and Data Analysis of the AIDS Clinical Trials Group in the Department of Biostatistics, School of Public Health, HARVARD University, Boston.

 

He has participated in several international conferences and has authored a number of articles in international journals and special volumes. He participates in several scientific societies and his research is mainly focused on Sampling, Multivariate Methods, and Estimation of Dispersion using the Bootstrap Resampling with iteration method.

Georgios Chortareas

George Chortareas is Professor of Macroeconomic Theory and Policy at the Department of Economics of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and a Professor of Economics at King’s Business School. He studied at the Departments of Economics of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (BA), the University of Glasgow (M.Phil.), and the University of Connecticut (Ph.D., 1999).

 

His research focuses on macroeconomic policy theory with emphasis on monetary policy, the relationship between the financial system and macroeconomics, and international macroeconomics with an emphasis on exchange rates.

Dr Vassilis Logothetis

Vassilis Logothetis is currently an Assistant Professor of Economics at the University of Ioannina, Department of Economics. He obtained his PhD in Economics from the University of Athens. Nikolina Kosteletou

Emeritus Professor in the Department of Economics Sciences of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens

Nikolina Kosteletou is  an Emeritus Professor at the Department of Economics Sciences of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. She studied economics at the Department of Economics of NKUA in 1977, and she received her Master Degree in Economic Theory from the Athens University of Economics and Business. In 1985 she obtained a PhD degree with specialization in International Monetary Economics from the London School of Economics and Political Sciences, with the supervision of Professor H. C. Pissarides. She has taught Macroeconomic Theory and International Economics at undergraduate and graduate level. She was the Director of the Applied Economics Program at the Graduate and Postgraduate level.


She has also been a member of the Boards of Directors of organizations in the public sector and the private sector and local government. Her publications and research work relate to international economics.

Nikolaos Eriotis

Nikolaos Eriotis is Professor in Financial Accounting in the Department of Business Administration  at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA). He obtained his PhD in Accounting at the Sorbonne University, Paris 1, Pantheon. He earned his DEA (Master Degree) in Production Economy from the same University. 


Dr. Eriotis is ex-chairman of the Department of Economics of NKUA, and possesses an extensive professional and teaching experience. During his career he was a consultant at the ministry of development of his country, the ministry of health and a lot of companies of the private sector. He authored and co authored more than 12 textbooks (ex. “Financial Management: Theory and Practice”, “Investment Analysis and Portfolio Management” and “Principles of Financial Accounting” published by Rosili). 


In addition, professor Eriotis has taught as a Visiting Professor at “Paris 13” University of France. As the author of more than 60 articles, monographs, and papers, his work has appeared in numerous publications including Applied Financial Economics, Applied Financial Economics Letters, Journal of International Financial Markets, Institutions & Money, Journal of Economic Integration, Managerial Finance, International Business & Economics Research Journal etc. His current research concerns Financial Accounting, Financial Statement Analysis and Cost Accounting. Xenofon Stribis

Xenofon Stribis holds a B.Sc Computing and a MSc in Models of Educational Planning and Development. He has been a full time ICT, digital skills, environmental education and STEM teacher in secondary education with 24 years of experience in secondary education using gamification tools where 7 of them were in a  Professional Vocational School(EQF Level 3-4). He is a part-time trainer on post-secondary educational centers(EQF Level 5) with more than 1100 teaching  hours. He is a certified adult trainer for lifelong learning courses and seminars awarded from the National Organization for the Certification of Qualifications & Vocational Guidance. He is a certified trainer for entrepreneurs awarded from the Center for the Development of Greek Trade and Entrepreneurship. Since 2003 he has worked in 47 European Projects, as a senior project manager in 34 projects and as a member of the working group in 12 projects. They were all funded by the European Union Directorates-General: Education and Culture (DG EAC). As a Senior Project Manager, his diverse experiences have equipped him with a well-rounded perspective on management, education and technology.


Eighteen (18) projects belonged in the Formal and non-Formal Learning sector, eleven(11) of them in school education, two(2) in Vocational Education, four(4) in Adult Education and one(1) in Higher Education.

Loukas Kopanias

Loukas Kopanias, is a Software Engineer, holds a B.Sc. from the Department of Informatics and Telecommunications at the University of Peloponnese in Greece. His thesis focused on the “Design and Development of an Android Mobile Application: e-Attendance Book in Higher Education using QR Code”. He has been selected to participate twice in the Google Summer of Code (GSoC), contributing to the open-source organization JBoss on a project called EAT (EAP Additional Testsuite) in both 2019 and 2020.

As a Research Associate at the University of Peloponnese, Loukas contributed to the EN.I.R.I.S.S.T.+ program (an Intelligent Research Infrastructure for Shipping, Supply Chain, Transport, and Logistics) funded nationally. His primary focus was on implementing Simulation Information Systems and providing technical documentation for services related to Logistics 4.0 and the Center for Sustainable Development of Ports.

 

For the past three years, he has been working as a Software Engineer at “Opticon Group”, specializing in developing optimized image processing applications (such as searching and labeling) for both Android and Windows operating systems under the national funded project “ULTRA.”

 

Additionally, he is an associate researcher at the Political Economy of Sustainable Development Lab of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA), where he acts as a system administrator and web developer. He has also developed and maintained “PRAKTOE,” an electronic application for managing internships within the Department of Economics at NKUA.

 

He possesses a wide range of technical skills, including programming languages such as Java, C, C#, JavaScript, Node.js, PHP, and Python. His expertise extends to libraries like Laravel, Symfony, SpringBoot, Javassist, Swing, and jQuery, as well as distributed systems like Hadoop, Apache Druid, and Apache Kafka.  Moreover, he is proficient in Android SDK and possesses excellent knowledge of RESTful APIs, unit testing, database querying, socket programming, bytecode manipulation, and security and authentication.

Andreas Papandreou is Professor of Environmental Economics in the Department of Economics of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. He received his B.Sc. in Economics from the University of London, Queen Mary College and his M.Sc. in Economics from London School of Economics. He became a Doctor of Philosophy at Merton College, Oxford University, in 1990. 

Dr. Papandreou has over 30 years of academic experience in various Universities, including University College London and Harvard. His research and published work are mostly in the fields of environmental economics, institutional economics, political economy, and welfare economics. Among his publications are “Externality and Institutions” (1998) Oxford University Press. He is a member of the Climate Change Impacts Study Committee (CCISC) of the Bank of Greece that completed the first comprehensive study of the impacts of climate change on Greece, prepared the Greek National Adaptation Plan and recently published the Economics of Climate Change that he co-authored. 

He is the Director of the MSc in Philosophy and Management at National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. He is the Director of the Political Economy of Sustainable Development Lab (PESD) at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. Member of the Center of Excellence on Climate Change – Adaptation and Mitigation, NKUA. He is Co-chair of the United Nations Sustainable Development Solutions Network Greece (SDSN Greece). The goal of SDSN is to promote knowledge based sustainable development solutions by engaging the academic community with civil society, local and national governments, and the business community. PESD and SDSN have been involved in many important initiatives promoting SDGs.
